As much as single player are still alive and doing great, multiplayer experiences have also gotten significantly better. Sure, Fallout 76 was a disaster, but, No Man’s Sky, a disaster back at launch, made a fantastic comeback with multiplayer this year. So here are our top picks for multiplayer titles of 2018.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Call of Duty has made a triumphant comeback, with boots on the ground multiplayer and Blackout is easily the best Battle Royale mode around right now.
- Battlefield V
RTX debacles aside, Battlefield V is a pretty enjoyable Battlefield game. Though it no longer retains the same strategic depth as Battlefield 3 & 4, it is definitely a big step up from Battlefield 1. There are some standout maps, the weapons feels great, and the game is a delight to look at, even without RTX.
- Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter World is easily the best Monster Hunter game to be ever made, and is also the most accessible. Sure, you still need to jump through a few hoops to get playing with your friends, but the overall experience is unlike any other. Tacking and hunting is a ton of fun, and the monster encounters are challenging and rewarding.
- FIFA 19
I know it’s easy to disregard every new FIFA entry as the same as the previous year’s game However, hardcore fans and veterans of the series can appreciate even the smaller improvements and roster updates, and FIFA 19 is an easy recommendation to bring a few friends together over an enjoyable round of football.
- Warhammer: Vermintide 2
Warhammer Vermintide 2 filled in the Left 4 Dead 3 shaped hole in my heart I never knew I had. Going through the massive levels, mowing down hordes of enemies, levelling up classes, and finding new loot is just so satisfying.
Well, we know that Fortnite is technically not a 2018 release, but it would be unfair to disregard the significance that Fornite had this year. It’s easily the biggest game in the world right now, and, for many people, the first introduction to video games.
- Insurgency Sandstorm
The first Insurgency was a highly beloved niche game, and Sandstorm builds up on the formula in significant ways. The gunplay is challenging and the visuals are phenomenal. While still in Early Access, and slated to release before the year ends, there’s enough content here to warrant a purchase.
- Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Online Beta is now live, and, despite the issues, it’s already showing massive potential. The missions are fun, and moseying in the wilderness with friends has never been more fun. We can’t wait to see where Red Dead Online is headed, but given where Rockstar took GTA Online, we can rest assured that it’s going to be awesome.
- No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky has been quiet the ride. From a messy launch, to constant updates, two years later, No Man’s Sky is finally a game that is easy recommend, especially now that you can explore the universe with friends. And by the looks of it, Hello Games is not yet done giving out free updates and making improvements to the game.
- PUBG Mobile
While PUBG took over the world by storm last year, PUBG Mobile has become a game-changing phenomenon in India. Folks across the country have been infected by the PUBG fever, and it has exposed more people to the joys of playing with friends than any other game ever did.
