Google Has Infrastructure, But Not Games – Senior Microsoft Executive Says
Cloud gaming is the future of video games, and the battle has already began. Google’s Stadia is the first properly announced cloud gaming platform, and Microsoft is currently readying for their announcement of XCloud at E3 2019.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer for Xbox Mike Nichols discussed the two upcoming cloud platforms, and who has edge over the other.
He admitted that Google definitely has the infrastructure, but lacked in terms of content- “Emerging competitors like Google have a cloud infrastructure, a community with YouTube, but they don’t have the content.”
He also went on to say the while cloud gaming is the future, it may never be as good as having a local device to play the game off of- “You won’t necessarily need a device over time, but you’ll get the best experience with local processing power.”
This statement definitely undercuts Microsoft’s own efforts in the cloud gaming sector, but then again, they also do have a console on offer.
